Michelle Salt

Just try to find a way to slow down Michelle Salt. We’ll wait. Not even a life-threatening motorcycle accident could derail her. Since then, all she’s done is become the first female Canadian Paralympic snowboarder, competed in two Paralympic games, earned 13 World Cup medals, competed as a fitness model, helped pioneer the sport of Adaptive Wake Surfing, won two national silver medals in wake surfing, occasionally jumps out of perfectly good airplanes at 13,00 feet and discovered a passion for that Ski-Doo feeling. Inspired yet? Here’s more on Michelle Salt.

Favorite type of terrain to ride

I love riding the backcountry of BC with diverse terrain like trees and bowls

What’s your “regular” job?

I’m a Pediatrics Medical Mobility Rep and Realtor

Interests and hobbies outside of snowmobiling

I love to jump out of a plane at 13,000 feet, wake surf, fish, golf, and snowboard.

What does That Ski-Doo Feeling mean to you?

It means I get to explore and appreciate the backcountry with the best crew all while having a great time and pushing myself to progress on my sled.

What motivates you to be an Ambassador?

Proving to myself that being an above the knee amputee doesn’t have to slow me down or hinder me from getting out there and showing the world what I’m capable of doing.

How long have you been riding snowmobiles?

3 seasons, going into my 4th

What’s the most fun you’ve ever had on a sled?

I always have the most fun every time I’m on my sled. I’m like a kid in a candy store exploring new zones and firing my machine up in the morning! Literally, every ride is the best ride!

My most embarrassing moment on a sled is…

Oh there’s just too many but I’d say my last ride of the season, I lost my side hill, went over the bars and my sled partially ran me over. My friends had to pull me out from under the belly. Luckily, I was fine but, a great humbling lesson.

Favorite Ski-Doo moment of all time:

We were in Golden, BC, and a group of ladies had just joined us in East Quartz. I was riding, doing my thing, focusing on holding my side hill and when I got down, one of the girls asked how I do that. I started explaining exactly what Nadine Overwater and Ashley Chaffin had shown me (full circle moment), and it made me really appreciate the amazing people in this industry who had taken the time to show me the way and to encourage my progression.

My guilty pleasure is

‘70s rock and Una cheesecake

One must-have item or accessory for every ride?

My Ski-Doo Tunnel bag. Not having snacks on the hill would be awful (I’d be hangry and that’s not fun for anyone) and of course, it’s nice to have that peace of mind knowing I’m fully equipped if I have to spend the night in the backcountry.

What’s your favorite meal on a sled?

Beef Jerky for sure!
