Speedometer Inaccuracy - Risk of Crash

Speedometer Inaccuracy - Risk of crash
Recall Number: TC 2021-752

Dear BRP Owner,

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

This is to inform you that your vehicle may contain a defect that could affect the safety of a

person. BRP is conducting a safety recall on some 2022 Ski-Doo snowmobiles.

Our records show that you own a potentially affected vehicle.

What is the potential problem?

Involved vehicles have a speedometer indicating approximately half (50%) of the true speed. For example, the speedometer will indicate 25 kmh/mph, but your real speed will be 50 kmh/mph.

The reading could alter the judgment of the driver in some riding conditions and could result in the vehicle being driven at illegal speeds.

This condition may increase the risk of a crash resulting in injury or death.

Note that any type of programmed key, which limits the maximum speed, is affected.

Which models are involved?

Certain serial numbers of some model year 2022 Ski-Doo snowmobiles:

●      EXPEDITION

●      GRAND TOURING

●      RENEGADE

●      SKANDIC

●      TUNDRA

What should you do?

●      Please contact your authorized BRP Ski-Doo dealer to schedule an appointment to have the safety recall performed on your vehicle. The dealer will update your vehicle’s engine control module (ECM). No parts are required. This action will take less than an hour to complete.

●      This repair is at no cost for you.

The presence of aftermarket modifications will not prevent you from receiving this service at no cost. The presence of these modifications, while the service is being completed, will not void any existing warranty or service contract.

Can I continue to ride my vehicle?

If you must ride your vehicle before the ECM update is performed, keep in mind that your true speed will be twice as fast as the displayed speed on the gauge. Drive carefully and within the posted speed limits. Also, note that any programmed keys, which limit the maximum speed, will be affected. For example, a key that is programmed to limit the speed at 35 kph/mph will in reality limit the speed at 70 kph/mph.
